Job-shadowing in Kunovice (Czech Republic)
In March 2015 I had the opportunity to visit a primary school in Kunovice through Erasmus + with my colleague. Kunovice is a small town in the south-east of the Czech Republic near the Slovakian border in the district of Uherské Hradisté. As part of the programme we took part in job shadowing.
The programme lasted for 6 days. During the programme we monitored 14 lessons and also visited the local swimming pool and a special sports school as the main topic of our visit was swimming and physical education.
When we arrived the headmaster, who is also the coordinator, was waiting for us at the railway station. He was very kind and helpful throughout the whole week and did his best to make us feel welcome. They invited us for dinner in the first evening and we checked the detailed programme. We were given a warm welcome at school by all the teachers and staff the next day.
Our visit was very well organized and the Czech colleagues helped us a lot to learn about the Czech educational system and their school. Altogether I found a lot of similarities but there are some differences as well:
- primary school starts at the age of 6 but it lasts for 9 years, so children have to choose a secondary school only at the age of 15
- they do not spend the whole day at school, only the mornings / after lessons they go home and do their homework or go to out of school activities
- for lower-primary students afternoon supervision can be required but there are not any compulsory lessons in the afternoons
- upper-primary students have afternoon lessons (until 13.45) twice a week but these are usually PE, Art or Craft lessons
- children have their own locker
- they wear slippers at school
- students spend the breaks in the classrooms and in the corridors with rest or playing games/ they only go to the garden in the long lunch break or in the afternoon
- the school has a nice relaxed atmosphere/ we did not notice any serious discipline problem
- the teachers are kind and helpful, many of them speak a foreign language and are pleased to take part in European projects
- 2 or 3 teachers share a study with desks, laptops where they can prepare for classes/ the staffroom is only used as a living room to relax and chat or have a nice cup of coffee
- teachers start work at 7.30 every day but can leave school when they have taught their lessons
- teachers are on duty 1 morning each week plus once at the canteen or kid’s club
- the headmaster is elected by the local council for 5 years through application
- children are friendly and helpful with each other - this is encouraged during the lessons as well combining different classes (year 1-5. Science/English class)
-the Pride Board and competitiveness has a very important role in the school’s life / however, students can cooperate easily with each other
- during the lessons pair work and group work are preferred to frontal teaching
- students start learning English in class 1; from class 7 they choose a second language (German or Russian)
- they have 2 PE lessons a week plus swimming (class 1-5)
- they do not have compulsory ’everyday PE’ like in Hungary, but children have the possibility to attend several sport classes in the afternoons if they pay a membership fee
- from class 5 boys and girls are separated in PE lessons in 2 gyms with a male and female teacher
- skiing practice is included in the school’s curriculum
- students go swimming to the Aqua park nearby 20 lessons a year / it is supported by the state
- swimming is taught by the professional trainers of the local swimming centre to class 1-5
- trainers teach swimming in groups (according to ability) with maximum of 12 kids so they can get more attention
- the methodology of swimming is similar to the Hungarian model but they use more equipment in the Czech Republic
- they are very proud that all the children in their district can swim at the end of class 3
- in the canteen children can choose from two dishes and a salad bar completes their meal
The school building is spacious and friendly, decorated with the students’ own work. Technical facilities are very good. There is a teacher’s laptop and projector in each room. There are two rooms with interactive whiteboards, one with 30 student laptops and a smartboard+response equipment. These two rooms are used not only in ICT classes but for other different subjects according to the timetable. Teachers often use presentations, videos and the Internet to make their lessons more enjoyable. There are also special rooms for Biology, Chemistry and English. The canteen was redecorated last year. It is friendly, colourful and the teachers have a separate place to eat their lunch.
The gym is equipped with the usual facilities. Those children who are good at sports can go to a special sports school in the town nearby. This sports school is extremely well equipped (with a fittness room for example) and the children are trained by upper primary PE teachers from class 3. They have 5 PE lessons a week. The town has many sports facilities (swimming pool, ice rink, and stadium) near the sports school. These facilities are regularly used by the students.
In our free time we went on trips. The Czech colleagues showed the sights in the neighbourhood, we tasted special beer and food and we also had the opportunity to visit Brno, the second largest city in the country. During these meetings we got to know each other’s work, tradition and apart from professional contact we made friends. I am looking forward to their visit next year to our school!
Altogether I am very pleased to be taking part in this programme. It does not only reassure my work as a teacher but I learned new methods and I have become more open-minded.
Beszámoló a csehországi hospitálásról
2015. márciusában lehetőségem nyílt arra, hogy az Erasmus+ program keretén belül kolléganőmmel ellátogassak Kunovicébe. Ez egy kisváros Csehország délkeleti csücskében, a szlovák határ közelében Magyarhradics (Uherské Hradisté) város körzetében, számos magyar emlékkel. A program keretén belül egy hospitálási projektben (job-shadowing) vettem részt.
A program 6 napig tartott. Ennek keretén belül 14 tanórát látogattunk meg, és megnéztük a helyi uszodát, illetve egy speciális sportiskolát is, mivel a látogatás fő témája az úszásoktatás és a testnevelés volt.
Megérkezésünkkor az igazgató, aki egyben a koordinátor is fogadott bennünket a vasútállomáson egy kolléganőjével. Rendkívül kedves és segítőkész volt, mindent megtett, hogy jól érezzük magunkat egész héten. Első este meghívtak minket vacsorázni, ahol az egész hét programját egyeztettük. Az iskolában nagy szeretettel fogadtak, nemcsak a projektben résztvevő tanárok, de minden kolléga, munkatárs is.
Az egész hét nagyon jól szervezett volt és mindent megtettek, hogy jól megismerjük a cseh oktatási rendszert és iskolájukat. Összességében sok hasonlóságot találtam a két ország szokásai között, de vannak különbségek is:
- az általános iskolát 6 évesen kezdik, de a 9. évfolyamig tart, így a gyerekeknek csak 15 évesen kell középiskolát választani
- nincs egész napos iskola, a gyerekek csak délelőtti oktatásban vesznek részt, utána haza mehetnek és otthon írják a házi feladatot, vagy különórára mennek
- délután az alsósoknak napközi otthon helyett „napközi” van igény szerint, de a többség haza megy
- a felsősöknek csak heti 2-szer van ebéd utáni órájuk (13.45-ig), akkor is törekednek rá, hogy az testnevelés, rajz vagy technika legyen
- a gyerekeknek saját, zárható szekrényük van
- az órák ugyanúgy 45 percesek, de a szünetek 10 percesek, kivéve az ebédszünet, ami 30 perc hosszú
- az iskolában váltócipőt, papucsot viselnek
- a szüneteket bent a tantermekben vagy a folyosókon töltik pihenéssel, játékkal. Az udvarra csak a hosszú ebédszünetben, illetve délután a napköziben mennek ki
- Az iskolában vidám, jó hangulat van, komolyabb magatartás problémát nem észleltünk
- a pedagógusok kedvesek, segítőkészek, sokan közülük beszélnek valamilyen idegen nyelven és nyitottak az európai projektekben való részt vételre
- 2-3 tanárnak külön szertára/ dolgozószobája van asztallal, laptoppal, ahol nyugodtan dolgozhat. A tanárit csak „nappali” szobának, társalgónak használják kanapékkal, kávégéppel
- a tanárok munkaideje 7.30-kor kezdődik, de ha a tanóráit megtartotta (heti 22 egységesen) haza mehet
- heti 1 délelőtti ügyelet (folyosó) jut mindenkire, és heti 1 alkalom az ebédlőben vagy a klubhelységben, délutáni ügyelet nincs
- az igazgatót a helyi önkormányzat választja pályázat útján 5 évre, az iskola ügyeiben ő dönt, a tankönyveket a tantestület választja
- a gyerekek rendkívül barátságosak egymással, segítik egymást, ezt tanórákon is elősegítik különböző évfolyamok összevonásával, együtt tanulásával (pl: 1-5. évfolyam természetismeret-angol óra)
- fontos szerepet tölt be a dicsőségtábla és a versenyszellem a gyerekek közt, ennek ellenére nagyon jól dolgoznak együtt
- a különböző tanórákon előnyben részesítik a pár és csoportmunkát (erre számos példát láttunk)
- a nyelvoktatás 1. osztályban kezdődik, 7.-től a 2. nyelvet tanulják (német vagy orosz) és a kommunikációt részesítik előnyben
- heti 2 testnevelés órájuk van plusz heti úszás 1-5. osztályig
- nincs mindennapos testnevelés, de délután lehetőség van többféle sportkörön részt venni jelképes tagdíj megfizetése után (pl: röplabda, torna)
- testnevelés órán már 5. osztálytól fiú-lány bontás van (2 tornaterem egymás mellett, 1 férfi és egy nő testnevelővel)
- a síoktatás benne van az iskola pedagógiai programjában
- az úszás a közeli Aquaparkban, az úszócentrum magasan képzett oktatóival történik 1-5.osztályig évi 20 órában, állami támogatással
- az úszásoktatás képesség szerinti bontásban (max. 12fő/csoport) történik, így több figyelem jut egy gyerekre
- az úszásoktatás módszertana, lépései hasonlóak, de sokkal több segédeszközt, felszerelést használnak
- rendkívül büszkék arra, hogy 3. osztály végére minden cseh gyerek megtanul úszni ebben a körzetben
- az ebédlőben 2 menü közül választhatnak és önkiszolgáló salátás pult egészíti ki az étkezést
Az iskola épülete tágas, barátságos, szépen dekorált, a gyerekek saját munkáival. Az egyik folyosón ping-pong asztalokkal.
Az iskola technikai felszereltsége nagyon jó. Minden teremben található tanári laptop és projektor. Két interaktív táblás terem van. Az egyik felszerelve 30 diák laptoppal és smartboard+response eszközzel. Mindkét termet jól kihasználják (nemcsak informatika órán). A tanárok gyakran színesítik óráikat prezentációkkal, videókkal, az internet használatával. Ezen kívül biológia, kémia és nyelvi szaktanterem van.
A tornaterem átlagos felszereltségű, a megszokott eszközökkel. A közelben található sport tagozatos iskola azonban kiemelkedően jól felszerelt (saját fitnesz teremmel), itt a gyerekeket heti 5 órában már alsótól szakos testnevelők oktatják. Az iskola környékén található a város több sportlétesítménye (uszoda, jégpálya, stadion) , ezeket rendszeresen használják.
Az ebédlő tavaly került felújításra, színes, barátságos, a tanároknak külön szeparált, nyugodt helységgel.
Szabadidőnkben kirándultunk, a kollégák megmutatták a környék nevezetességeit, megkóstoltuk a finom cseh sört, és alkalmunk volt Brno-ba is ellátogatni.
Ezeken az együttléteken közelebbről is megismertük egymás munkáját, szokásait, és a szakmai kapcsolat mellett barátságok is kötettek. Nagyon várom a jövő évi látogatásukat.
Összességében nagyon örülök, hogy részt vehettem ebben a programban. Amellett hogy megerősített saját munkám folytatásában, új dolgokat tanultam és nyitottabbá váltam.
